Here, I would like to tell you about my experience with shopping at Althea's online shop. Let me tell you  a little back story as to why K-beauty has never appealed to me. First of all, it is the language that K- brands sometimes use to describe their products. Sometimes, they sound vague and other times they sound quite intimidating to an unknowing customer. As a customer, I love my information. I need to get as many as I can before buying a certain product. That is why, I normally stick with K-brands like Ceramidin because they aways provide me with the information that I need to know and their branding is very straight forward.

Thankfully, Althea provided detailed description of every product on their website down to the ingredients list (something I always want to know). And better yet, they are all written in English, a language that we can read and understand. I can't tell you how many times I was dumfounded to find the product description was written in Hangul or Korean. Oh thank God for Althea!!

Anyway, you must be curious what I got from my first ever Althea haul. Koreans are well known for their skincare and I got myself a few skincare items to try from the brand, Missha.

I picked two items from their Time Revolution range;

- Time Revolution Intensive First Treatment Essence and
-Time Revolution Night Repair New Science Activator Borabit Ampoule.

The First Treatment Essence was dubbed the dupe to the infamous SK II Facial Treatment Essence. Naturally, I jut had to try it because as much as I love SK II FTE, the price is a little daunting to pay. I cannot wait to see how this will fare. The Time Revolution Night Repair Serum was something I totally bought on a whim. I just had a good feeling about this. I saw the ingredient list on the website and it looks great. So, it was a rather informed decision that I made on my end. I cannot wait to try this too. I heard quite recently that it is the Korean version of the infamous Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair!!

So, I am reaching to you guys today to start making your wish list and who knows you will get lucky!!

Don't say I didn't warn you!!

Nude and Earthy Makeup in Collaboration with Sleeping with Makeup

I don't know what has gotten into me, but I am loving nude makeup at the moment. It is a trendy thing to do, yes, but there's just something so versatile and flattering about it. I was probably influenced by the the likes of Gigi Hadid, for sure. Nude, earthy colours when done right, will accentuate your features subtly. Best of all, no matter what skin tone you own, there are earthy colours that suit you.

Today's post is special because it is a collaboration with another blogger whom I love her penmanship. She is Farah from Sleeping with Makeup blog. Just like me, Farah runs a great beauty blog and Instagram page @kingfrh that deserve a mention because she is a talented blogger. I am sure you are going to love her.  So, you are not only going to see only one, but two looks from the both of us. Thank you Farah, you make me want to blog again, something I miss doing for quite some time now.

Onto the makeup, I have gone slightly smokey on the eyes with Champagne coloured eyeshadow in my inner corner from Catrice single eyeshadow in It's Toffee. I finished the eye makeup with Stila Mind palette, in the shade Intellect in my outer half and Perception up in my crease area. Essentially, nude makeup is about simplicity and effortlessness. So, this is is as simple as full on an eyeshadow look can get. Due to the nude-ness of the look, I added a little contrast with a winged liner.

To tie in the subtle makeup look I used the new Bobbi Brown Nude Illuminating Finishing Powder in Buff on the perimeters of my face and on my cheek to give a subtle bronze look. The for a hint of blush I chose a melon peach blush from Dior in the shade Blooming Peach. I highlighted the top of my cheekbones with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal to complete the look. Nude makeup is not complete with a nude lipstick. For that, I chose NARS Satin Lip Pencil in the shade Het Loo dotted and buffed into my lips for that subtle and diffused look. The colour in real life shows up much browner and more pigmented, but for the purpose of this editorial, I really sheer it out so my natural lip colour show through the lipstick.

I love how fresh and chic this makeup looks on me and I am sure you can tweak it to be your own signature nude look. Be sure to check out Farah's interpretation of the nude makeup look. Do follow her for more genuine and creative posts. I hope that you will gain some inspiration from our posts!!

See you in the next post.

Beauty Mementos

Everything has it's value, some more so than others. If you are passionate about the things that you do (for me, it's beauty and blogging about it), then you must have a sizeable stash of beauty products. There are also some that started it all. It is funny how some products can take you back to a specific memory. It is a memory of joy, of accomplishment and more.Today, I am taking you with me to that specific memory.

  1. Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and Benefit Hervana blush: I was living in the Netherlands when the first Sephora opens there. Can you imagine my excitement? Yes, I was that excited and saved enough pocket money to buy these two cult items that I have been seeing all across the Beautysphere. It was way back in 2012, I think and I came home that day with a big smile on my face.
  2. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Rivage and Fetiche: 2011, the year of my first foray into Chanel and these are my first Chanel lipsticks. I also remembered getting them for 40% off at DA Parfumerie in that little town of Wageningen. And then, later on, my husband got me the Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche perfume as my birthday gift, so, that was my second Chanel. The Rouge Coco Shine is still one of the best sheer lipstick in the market even to this day. Right now, the Marc Jacobs Sheer Nudes has stolen the top spot.
  3. Dior Amber Diamond: Anybody remembers this? I just have to put this in here because I think this is my most cherished highlighter. Not only because it is beautiful, but it is also because this is my very first high end highlighter. I remembered waiting until I have enough to buy it and it is just the best feeling. This a baked highlighter but I swear this does not kick up any powder at all like most typical baked makeup products. I don't know how Dior does it but Dior Amber Diamond is still relevant in the strobing era we have now.
  4. Guerlain Parure Gold Compact Foundation: As you can see from the photo, the compact looks old and wretched. It is very old, I am talking like maybe 5 years old. I finished the foundation but I cannot bear parting with it #crazymakeplady. Guerlain powder an base products are just top notch. I remembered how great the powder is, ver soft, velvety on the skin all while giving the skin a great coverage and a healthy glow. I might repurchase it one fine day.
  5. Tom Ford Lip Color Shine in Ravenous: It is Tom Ford, what more can I say? This is the most recent out of them all here. I waited years for this and finally got it for my Master's graduation present. This lipstick is nothing short of luxurious.

Call me sentimental, but I do appreciate the things that I have no matter what they are or how cheap it is.

What are the things that have sentimental value to you?

Tips For Maintaining a Blackhead-free Complexion with B.liv Pores Be Clean Set

If there is one thing I know about skincare, it is there is never one cure for all. It needs to be a combination of different products. I also believe in balance when it comes down to caring for your skin. Whatever that was taken (cleansing, exfoliating, toning), has to be restored and protected (essence, mist, moisturizer and sunscreen). Besides that, it is really crucial to find products that are suited for your skin. The common denominator is you still need to cleanse, tone, exfoliate, moisturize and protect your skin regardless of what type of skin you have.

My skin has changed a lot over the years. From being oily, covered with cystic acne and blackheads to where it is now. My skin is now on the normal side and my acne and blackheads has cleared up since. I have gone through prescription acne medications but it only took a toll on my skin. I found most acne targeted products out there are either too harsh or too damaging to the skin. So, I changed my habit by learning more about my skin and what products would work for me. I thought I'd share with you what I did that has kept my skin clear from blackheads. They have all worked on me, so I hope it works on you too!! Blackheads are caused by pores that are plugged with oil and dirt from skin cells and environment forming black plugs on the skin most prominent on the nose where the sun hit the first.

As much as it is satisfying and instant to get rid of blackheads with a pore strips, it is only treating the symptoms for a short while. I believe in getting to the source of things to eliminate it altogether.

1. Understand your skin: Just because you have blackheads does not mean you have oily skin. You can have combination or dry skin and have blackheads.  Either way, it is important to choose a cleanser that is gentle. Harsh cleansers can only deprive your skin from its good oil which can only be countered by your skin producing even more oil to compensate the loss. The b.liv Deep Impact Cleanser contains gentle Jojoba beads to exfoliate the skin along with Aloe Vera to soothe the skin. If you have oily skin you can get away with using this everyday and dry skinned ladies should exercise caution and use this as an exfoliating scrub once or twice a week.

2. Exfoliate: Exfoliation will help tremendously, trust me. Salicylic Acid or BHA will unclog the pores by dissolving oils that are deep in the pores. The b.liv Off With Those Heads contains Salicylic Acid to help with that. This gel promises to eliminate stubborn whiteheads and blackheads in 14 days of use. I will update you on that after 14 days. For better results, use this in conjunction with an AHA based toner. AHA/Lactic Acid/ Glycolic Acid will aid in clearing dead skin and debris on the skin's surface. In return, the blackheads condition will not be exacerbated, in fact it will get better if used consistently because AHA and BHA work in tandem. I would recommend using b.liv Off With Those Heads on troubled areas and moisturize the skin right after the product is well absorbed into the skin. During the day, never forget to layer on sun protection cream to prevent blackheads' oxidation which will turn them black. I have been exfoliating consistently for years now, that I don't think I will go back to my old ways. I cannot preach enough for you to start exfoliating now. Trust me, you will see the changes.

3. Masks: Besides establishing a good skincare routine as mentioned above, a face mask is that little thing that completes the puzzle. Face masks are normally formulated to be potent so they can work their magic in a short time. They act as a fix-all when my skin is behaving out of sorts. The b.liv Absolute Matte mask can help to purify the skin while controlling oil and shine. It contains charcoal which also help to detoxify the skin from impurities. Use your mask at least once a week after cleansing. Be sure to follow up with an exfoliating toner, b.liv Off With Those Heads and a moisturizer before heading to bed.

The B.liv Pores Be Clean set is definitely more suited for those with oily skin. Those with dry skin with blackheads may benefit from the set with using the cleanser as a twice weekly scrub, the serum on troubled areas, the mask for once a week and buying a richer moisturizer. You can purchase the set from Hermo at a much discounted price (RM 155.66 instead of RM 240).

I hope this post is helpful to help you to achieve blackhead-free complexion.

On My Radar: Eye Creams That May Rock My World!!

After having a great affair with my Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream, I have to say I am hungry for more. Let's call it skincare lust, if there is such a thing. Since then, I have been on an eye cream binge in a mission to find something better. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with my Fresh one but in the name of science and discovery I am willing to test the water. At the moment, the 4 that you see here are what intrigued me the most and here's why:

1. REN Instant Brightening Beauty Shot Eye Lift: It's new and it's snazzy. It's also somewhat highly coveted because the beauty editor from The Guardian Sali Hughes has already dubbed this eye  cream the best that she has ever seen within 30 seconds of application. She noticed plumper, brighter, and smoother under eye. Apart from that, you know what gives the jitter to try this new offering from Ren? It is packed full of Hyaluronic Acid just like my Fresh ones. Now, that is something worth trying.

2. Arcona Eye Dew: Along the same vein, this also provides hydration and nourishment for the under eye areas to prevent deepening of lines and increase elasticity with the help of surprise surprise Hyaluronic Acid, shea butter, essential fatty acids and Vitamin E. It is a relatively new brand that arrived in our Sephora late last year. After trying it, on the back of my hand, I have thought about giving it a try one day.

3. Mad Hippie Eye Cream: I discovered this brand by accident when I was reading my favourite skincare blog by Nicki. I have to admit I have never heard of this brand before. I love the concept behind the brand; more actives, more result. Being an all natural skincare brand, that is so hard to pull off. And they did it anyway without costing an arm and a leg. The thing that intrigued me about this eye cream is the fact that it has Vitamin K in it among other beneficial ingredients. I knew for certain that Vitamin K can really help in diminishing dark circles. I swear to you, I have been searching for an eye cream with Vitamin K since last year and I have not found one until Mad Hippie came in my view. So, into the wishlist it goes.

4. Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream: First of all, I love the brand. I remembered trying this eye cream  on the back of my hand one day in Sephora one day and fell in love with how it felt. Somehow, I got distracted with other things as you do in this ever changing beauty world, this fell out of my view. So, now I am bringing this to my attention again because I have a feeling it is going to be good. The fragrance free formulation is rich with antioxidants and moisture attracting ingredients which could work for me.

Those are in my list to try as far as eye creams go. The question is, which to try first?

Spring Makeup Look: Sweet Mint Burst

Too early or is it never too early? Well, to me, it does not really matter. It's all about living in the fast lane, nowadays. I will keep up when I can. Like today, I was inspired by a colour, specifically mint green.Who knew this shade would look good on the eyes, right.

Here's a little back story. I saw my IG friends posting their purchase of their new Anastasia Self Made palette. And, I was gawking at its beauty. You know how makeup palette can make you do all sorts of crazy things, right? I have been there and I was only drawn to the mint shade called Isla which was the shade Anastasia used for the campaign advertorial, see here. Gorgeous right? While the palette is very pretty and I could have it in a heartbeat, I just can't, because I only have a pair of eyes. There's only so much eyeshadow that I can wear on my eyes. So, shopped my stash, I did. And, I found the colours!!

Unfortunately, the colors I used were all from previous limited edition collections. However, if you do not have colors like this, I would recommend getting the palette itself, if like me, you love these kinda shades. For this, I used my well loved Dior Bonne Etoile quint layered on top of Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in Jade Shore. I love how the combination of the two resulted in this beautiful iridescent  sea foam green. I want the green to be the focus of this look, so everything else is downplayed. Dior instance, my definition came from a softly dispersed deep brown crease action also from the same Dior Bonne Etoile and just a little hint of the khaki shade on the outer V. Of course, I had to finish it off with a subtle winged eyeliner and mascara. I did also define my lower lash lines and my waterlines with Stila Smudge Stick in Stingrey blended in with the brown shade I used for my crease.

It's 2016, so of course I contoured my nose and my cheeks with my Marc Jacobs Instamarc in Mirage Filter. For some pop of colour, I used the Hourglass Dim Infusion blush, a very soft peach shade. I carried on with the lips where I chose MAC lipstick in Modesty and Lancome Color Fever Gloss in 308 Mauve Fiesta

While I did not follow the editorial a 100%, I am jazzed and happy with this version that I came up on my own. I hope you enjoyed the look!!

What colour(s) have inspired you lately?
