Marsala Makeup Guide

Eyeshadow Quad: Chanel Harmonie du Soir palette | Single Cream Eyeshadows: Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Get Figgy, Maybelline Color Tattoo in Metallic Pommegranate and Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Ebloui

New year, new colour to spice things up. And the 2015 Colour of The Year is nothing short of that. Meet Marsala; the Pantone Colour of 2015; an earthy, wine red shade.
"It enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability," says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, in the announcement.
It is a rich, inviting, seductive, warm and robust shade that can easily be translated into fashion, home interior, makeup or even electronics. I was drawn to it immediately because it has been my favourite kind of shade for the longest time. It just feels natural to be part of this new beautiful trend. This colour suits everybody from different skin tones beautifully making it a very universal and friendly colour to rock this season. Everybody can pull it off.

Lipsticks: Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Troublant, YSL Rouge Volupte Sheer Candy in Sweet Fig, NARS Audacious Lipstick in Audrey, Bourjois Color Boost in Plum Russian, Korres Lip Butter in Wild Rose and YSL Rouge Volupte Shines in 17 Rose in Tension
So, today, I bring you my interpretation of the trend into my makeup. Oh, I cannot even begin to rave about this shade. To be honest, I cannot wait to create this post for you.
In this look, I incorporated the Marsala hue in my eyeshadows and lipstick with the lipstick taking centre stage and the eyes were kept slightly muted with just a hint of Marsala and softly defined. I kept the cheeks warm and subtly contoured with a bronzer and a neutral toned blush.
I believe that you can go either way with it or go full force with a matching Marsala shade blush. I would suggest the NARS blush in Almeria from their Holiday 2014 collection for that perfect Marsala kissed cheeks. The shade of lipstick that I have on lips is the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Audrey, the perfect Marsala wine shade. If you just wanted to test the water, then, a sheerer option is your best bet. The YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in 17 Rose in Tension is just like NARS Audrey but more forgiving but just as beautiful. If you love a neutral tone them opt for Korres Lip Butter in Wild Rose or Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait d Gloss in Troublant.
For the eyes, might I suggest something a little more of a Marsala smoke? Choose a multi dimensional eyshadow of the same colour family and blend it up to the crease for that efforless and chic look for everyday or going to work. Chanel Illusion d' Ombre in Ebloui and Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Get Figgy are perfect for this. For a night look, amp up the drama simply by layering a powder eyeshadow that complemet the shade. My personal favourite is the reddish amber shade from Chanel Harmonie du Soir palette from their winter collection a few years back. However, I am sure you are going to find one from eyeshadow palettes that you own. I believe there's one or maybe two shades that resonates Marsala in the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette.
