Best Beauty Discovery of 2015: Skincare and Makeup

Happy New Year, internet friends!! What a year it has been indeed. Looking back, I think it has been a good year for me, in terms of beauty because I have discovered many new things that I have been really loving. I have not been buying things impulsively and all purchases were calculative and informed. I guess I have learnt from a lot of my beauty mistakes in the past.

Let's start with bases. You might be seeing a trend here; I love medium coverage base products that have skin beautifying benefits in them. My first ultimate love was the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue; so ridiculously lightweight on the skin while giving a flattering light to medium coverage on the skin. Speaking of light coverage and skin nourishing foundation, the Estee Lauder Futurist Aqua Brilliance did not come short on that; it really is a great skin day in a foundation. Then, I delve into Cushion Foundation and the Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation was what I lived on throughout my second pregnancy. It is just the easiest and the quickest to apply without having foundations all over my hands. I love the coverage that it gives and it almost forms a film on the skin that fills in the ridges and textures I have on my skin.

Towards, the last quarter of the year I was curious to try a high coverage foundation that does not compromise with the natural look of the skin. Sometimes, a full coverage foundation can be too matte, too thick and dodgy, but the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Moisturizing Photo Edition foundation defies all that without compromising on coverage. It is just what I look for and want in a high coverage foundation. Later on, close to the end of the year, I have fallen in love with the new reformulated Loreal True Match foundation. Truth be told, I threw away an old bottle of mine a long time ago because it has not been working the way I remembered it to. It was not blending so well and it felt like it was just sitting on my skin. The texture of the reformulated version is nothing like the old one and I love that it feels light and looks glowy on the skin. More on that later on the blog.

As far as concealers go, there were two that stood out to me. The MUFE Full Cover Concealer is the only one that I used on my dark spots and scars throughout 2015. It is just the best, covers without looking thick or cakey and the coverage stays on as long as I set it with powder. You know I always and still love my Bobbi Brown Corrector to counteract my dark circles. In 2015, I discovered M.A.C Prep and Prime Highlighters in Bright Forecast. The colour and the product reminded me a lot of my YSL Touche Eclat in no. 3 which I used way back in the day. That is why I love it so much and it does a great job at correcting my dark circles. I also love that it feels so light on the skin.

As far as face powders go, new ones that I have been loving is my Guerlain Meteorites Compact for face brightening and Loreal True Match Powder for an all over setting powder. I was surprised to find  a drugstore powder that does not look powdery or cakey on the skin. It is such a great powder that still lets my skin show through, only more polished and slightly matte. It mattifies without making the skin lose its luminosity. And then, there were three makeup tools that have changed my makeup game. The first was Breena Beauty brushes; it is so quick at blending out foundations and I use it a lot with my mineral powder foundation. The second one was the Beautyblender; yes I just started trying it in 2015 and wow, I am amazed at how great it works with high coverage bases. Flawless face all the time with the Beautyblender. The third is the Zoeva 109 Luxe Face Paint brush. It is a natural goat hair brush that is so soft and malleable that makes contouring and blending so much easier.

Let's be honest, I hopped on every single makeup trend that 2015 had to offer. First up is contouring and the Marc Jacobs Instamarc in Mirage Filter has been my go to for that chiseled look. I specifically love contouring my nose and cheeks with it and what a difference it has made!! I have also been into highlighting lately and trust me, Becca highlighters is where it's at.The creamy powder texture is out of this world and it just melds into the skin like no other highlighter. I have been specifically enjoying Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal and Champagne Pop.I have also enjoyed using cream highlighter stick throughout 2015. The Peripera Heart Glow Stick is the one that I reached for that subtle, barely there glow. The texture is smooth and it is so easily blended on the skin.

It has also been a year where I have fallen head over heels for peach blushes; Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Love Hangover, Dior blush in Precious Peach and Guerlain Tender Blush in Peach Party have been my most worn in 2015. Peach just warms up the face and it goes with almost everything.

Unlike previous years, 2015 had been the year that I was the least adventurous with lip products but there are many standout lipsticks that I truly love. I was really into nudes in the beginning of the year. My ultimate love is the Marc Jacobs Sheer Nude Lipstick in Roleplay. The texture is just different than any other lipsticks I have tried and the colour is made for me!! The other slightly peachy nude shade is Tarte Amazonian Butter lipstick in Coral Blossom. The 2015 was also the year I discovered MAC lipsticks and I cannot see a way out of it. MAC just have the best colours and their cremesheen, matte and satin textures are my favourite textures. As far as matte lipsticks go, I have been loving Diorific Matte lipstick, Maybelline Lip Gradation, Loreal Collection Star and the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet had been standouts of the year. Apart from that, the Laura Mercier Lip Parfait is the most nourishing lipstick of 2015. I just love how luxurious it feels on the lips. Lip liners have also been big in 2015 and there were two that I found; The Essence Long Lasting Lipliner in Lovely Frappucino and the Art Deco Soft Lip liner in 07

YAAASS!! Eyeshadow palette!! It cannot get more glorious than this. The Lorac Pro Palete, The Stila Mind Palette and the Laura Mercier Artist palette have been my go-to for everything; matte look, satin look or metallic look, you name it. I have a review of each if you'd like to see.

2015 has also been a great year with skincare. I have discovered so many new products that work for me. My skin has changed a lot and it gets better since I started this blog. You've probably known by now that my HG serum is the Peter Thomas Roth De-Spot. Along the journey, I have also dabbled into affordable skincare from Olay that I have seen a positive difference with. As far as toners and Mist, I am still loving my Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner and my First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist. In 2015, I have also used Trilogy Rosehip Oil Antioxidant Plus religiously and I have just finished it. My skin is firmer and brighter from using it. I will surely go back to it as soon as   possible. In December 2015, my eye care game has changed since the discovery of Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream. Girl, you need this in your life!! I have also discovered Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream and this hydrates like no other. Dry patches are gone just like that, overnight. In late 2015, I have also included Retinol into my skincare routine from Alpha-H Liquid Gold Night Repair Serum. OMG, the result that I have seen in a night is nothing short of amazing. The first week alone,  have seen my skin is firmer and my pores are tightened. Light scars are diminished in opacity too. I will be posting a full review on that soon.

Overall, it has been a great adventurous year in beauty. I cannot wait for what 2016 has to offer. All I know, 2016 will be the year that I will be investing more on skincare and body care products. I am also going to nail my hair care routine this year. So, stay with me in this journey and I wish you a great 2016!!

Thank you for all of your comments. It is so great to find all of you here who also shares the same passion as I do. Let's grow together!!
